BETH MCALESTER

Beth McAlester is a Northern Irish artist based in London. Working primarily in oil on wood, her paintings examine identity, place, and acts of commemoration through semi-biographical narratives informed by post-Troubles contexts in the UK and Ireland. Her work draws on personal experience and inherited histories, using material and image to consider how these are constructed and carried forward through individuals, objects, and places.

McAlester is currently studying at the Royal Academy Schools, London, having previously completed a BFA in Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art. In 2026, she was an artist in residence at Cadzand Air, Netherlands. In 2025, she received The Hari Art Prize and the Judge’s New Talent Award at the Cass Art Prize. Recent exhibitions include On the Conditions of Bodily Presence at The Tagli, London; Fragment III at Commune, Vienna; and All The Small Things II at Soup Gallery, London.
